Kiribati

In Kiribati, PSDI is supporting reforms to improve the business and consumer environment and expand private sector opportunities.

PSDI is working with the Government of Kiribati to:

  • Modernize company and business laws;

  • Draft legislation for the development of an online business registry;

  • Strengthen the operations and financial sustainability of the Kiribati Provident Fund including development of a comprehensive policy framework;

  • Undertake analysis in preparation for the establishment of a Commerce Commission; and

  • Support the improved performance of state-owned enterprises through analysis and review.

Resources and Spending

The comparatively small amount of funding PSDI has spent in Kiribati was mostly deployed in 2018-2019, when $116,055 of the $285,144 total allocation since 2007 was spent. This has mainly funded the development of three news bills—the Companies Bill, the Companies Insolvency Bill, and the Business Names Bill.
